Outbreak - The Game: A toy-based simulation video game

Outbreak - The Game

Outbreak is a pc-based simulation that challenges adults ages 18-35 to manage a bird flu pandemic. Players control every turn of the game using unique toy-based simulators to explore management, scientific and personal strategies. Outside of the game, players "infect" friends with knowledge about bird flu. The game was developed through a series of need finding and rapid-prototyping activities centered on providing fun, tinkerable toys that leverage cognitive and behavioral learning models. Development of the game was supported by a grant from the UC Berkeley Center for New Media. Outbreak was awarded first prize in the Berkeley series game design competition.
