After learning simple nouns and verbs, children need to start reasoning about abstract concepts like shape, number, and color. This project investigates opportunities for technology to help children master their color words. Language acquisition research suggests that to be remembered, words must be repeated in meaningful contexts over an extended period of time. So this augmented reality application uses a phone’s camera to recognize and then announce color words as young learners explore the spaces they inhabit and the objects they encounter.
